Israeli army kills five Qassam fighters in Gaza
Saed Bannoura, IMEMC, Nov 5 2008

Palestinian medical sources in Gaza reported Tuesday night that Israeli soldiers invaded areas in the central and southern parts of the Gaza Strip and killed five fighters, members of the Al Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, and wounded several other residents. The Al Qassam brigades confirmed that four fighters were killed when Israeli war-jets shelled an area east of Al Qarara, east of Kahn Younis in the southern part of the Gaza Strip. The four were identified as Mahmoud Ba’lousha, 23, Omar Al Alamy, 21, Mohammad Awad, 26, and Wajid Moharib, 25. Another fighter was killed and four others were wounded by Israeli military fire as soldiers, supported by several tanks and armored vehicles, invaded an area in the central Gaza Strip earlier on Tuesday evening. The fighter was identified as Mazin Sa’da, 30, from Al Maghazi refugee camp, in the central Gaza Strip. Sa’da is one of the field leaders of the Al Qassam Brigades in central Gaza. The Palestine-info, a news website run by Hamas, reported that several tanks and armored vehicles invaded Gaza through its eastern borders and fired several shells at a number of homes. The website added that the Al Qassam fighters clashed with the invading forces and fired five mortars and three shells at the Kissufim Israeli military camp on the Gaza border. Meanwhile, the Israeli army argued that this invasion does not constitute a violation to the cease-fire deal brokered by Egypt between Israel and resistance factions in Gaza on June 19. Army sources said that the shelling is “a legitimate step to remove am immediate threat to Israel from Gaza”, Israeli online daily, Haaretz, reported. On the ground, the invasion is an actual Israeli violation to the five-month old truce.
