Egypt-US concede failure of steel barrier along Gaza borders
Palestine Information Center via Aletho News, Jun 11 2010

Hebrew media sources have revealed that an atmosphere of pessimism prevailed in the meeting of US Vice-Pres Biden with Egyptian Pres Mubarak in Sharm e-Sheikh due to the failure of the steel barrier strategy in tightening the grip on the besieged Gaza Strip. Military and security consultants from both countries were profoundly disappointed after “Hamas engineers” in the Gaza Strip succeeded in penetrating the barrier, the sources added. The sources also disclosed that reports received by Biden alleged that “Hamas engineers” succeeded in excavating 18m under the ground and in planting burning materials in the way of the steel slabs that melted the foundations of the barrier and made them of no effect. Furthermore, the sources said that that the US decided to abandon the project and stopped financing it, and started to pull out all US military engineers participating in and supervising the project. The US-Egypt plan was meant to destroy all tunnels along the Gaza Strip borders with Egypt in a bid to complete the Israeli siege and suffocate the 1.6 million Palestinians living in the Strip.

What do you suppose would fuel such a thing?

I’d propose that ‘this sort of thing’ is fueled by the arrogant wielding of power by over-confident political players allergic to consultation, and with more influence than curiosity or commonsense. It’s easy to forget that ALL the profits skimmed from the money spent on the War on Terra is destined for private pockets.
Being a “war” makes it unseemly to query the effectiveness, or otherwise, of the expenditure.
How much of the money dumped into the “wars” could be described as a good investment – by anyone except the profiteers? They don’t care if their ideas are no good.

I can envisage a meeting in which the boss of the people proposing the U/G Gaza wall asks an engineer if the idea was feasible and receiving the the answer “No”. The boss’s 2IC then asks “How much would it cost?” to which the engineer replies “not less than $50 million per km – if you can make it work.”
“Great!” says the boss. “Our cut on civil engineering is 40%. We’ll go with that!”

I think the actual fact is that Egypt buried a chain-link fence maybe 20m into the ground, by digging a trench 20m deep (quite a job), laying a 24m-high fence in it it, and then filling in the trench, leaving only the top 4m of the fence above ground. Then the Hamas guys brought oxy-acetylene cutters through the tunnels and cut the chain-link fence.

    Then there is this. (publicity?)

The Palestine-Info site is famous for information on Palestine, material which embarrasses the government of Israel. But now the DNS server will not let me reach it! Does anyone reading this know why? This no longer works:
    This does:
The name is not being resolved; I can’t even ping it. This looks like covert censorship to me. The government of Israel would certainly do such a thing.
Does anyone know why this is happening?
    Harland Harrison

I know I have been sounding a bit skeptical lately and don’t wish to be a party pooper, but I have to continue in that same vein for now and say that I’m reserving judgement about the veracity of this site. 🙂

P.S. Note to site builders: Loose the music and go easy on the graphics, they don’t help your credibility, it makes you look like a fake jihadi site. 🙂

I don’t know exactly where you want all your italics in the comment above, moonkins, but I hope I have got them right.

As for the site, I am in no doubt at all that:
    (a) it is the genuine Hamas public relations site;
    (b) it is not on our DNS servers.

Regarding your current DNS not resolving the address. Have you tried using an different DNS? There are quite a few open DNS’s (Domain Name Servers) to choose from.

Obviously it isn’t just my DNS server; you quoted Harland Harrison saying on a Yahoo Groups list that his couldn’t resolve it either. It is presumably a british establishment policy not to list the site, even though again presumably they can’t or won’t shut it down.

Personally, I am not going to fiddle about with my connections to try to circumvent it. I can’t think of a single other site that I am aware of being blocked. except, and that is only intermittent and may have some other cause completely.

As for your variously real or fake jihadi sites, I don’t really want to know. So I have removed that comment. Sorry 🙂
