The US has Installed a Neo-Nazi Government in Ukraine
Michel Chossudovsky, Global Research, Mar 2 2014

Ukraine-Presser_2838965a

According to the NYT:

The US and the EU have embraced the revolution here as another flowering of democracy, a blow to authoritarianism and kleptocracy in the former Soviet space.

“Flowering Democracy, Revolution”? The grim realities are otherwise. What is a stake is a US-EU-NATO sponsored coup d’état in blatant violation of international law. The forbidden truth is that the West has engineered, through a carefully staged covert operation, the formation of a proxy regime integrated by neo-Nazis. Confirmed by Asst Sec State Toria Nuland, key organizations in the Ukraine including the Neo-Nazi party Svoboda were generously supported by Washington:

We have invested more than $5b to help Ukraine to achieve these and other goals. … We will continue to promote Ukraine to the future it deserves.

The Western media has casually avoided to analyze the composition and ideological underpinnings of the government coalition. The word “neo-Nazi” is a taboo. It has been excluded from the dictionary of mainstream media commentary. It will not appear in the pages of the NYT, the WaPo or the UK Independent. Journalists have been instructed not to use the term “neo-Nazi” to designate Svoboda and the Right Sector.

Composition of the Coalition Government
We are not dealing with a transitional government in which neo-Nazi elements integrate the fringe of the coalition, formally led by the Fatherland party. The Cabinet is not only integrated by the Svoboda and Right Sector (not to mention former members of defunct fascist UNA-UNSO), the two main neo-Nazi entities have been entrusted with key positions which grant them de facto control over the armed forces, police and national security. While Yatsenyuk’s Fatherland Party controls the majority of portfolios and Svoboda neo-Nazi leader Oleh Tyahnybok was not granted a major cabinet post (apparently at the request of Toria Nuland), members of Svoboda and the Right Sector occupy key positions in the areas of defense, law enforcement, education and economic affairs. Andriy Parubiy, co-founder of the neo-Nazi Social-National Party of Ukraine (subsequently renamed Svoboda) was appointed Secretary of the National Security and National Defense Committee, a central decision-making body with the Ukrainian acronym RNBOU. While it is formally headed by the president, it is run by the Secretariat with a staff of 180 people including defense, intelligence and national security experts. This is a key position which overseas the Ministry of Defense, the armed forces, law enforcement, national security and intelligence. Parubiy was one of the main leaders behind the Orange Revolution in 2004. His organization was funded by the West. He is referred to by the Western media as the “kommandant” of the EuroMaidan movement. Andriy Parubiy together with party leader Oleh Tyahnybok is a follower of Ukrainian Nazi Stepan Bandera, who collaborated in the mass murderer of Jews and Poles during WW2. In turn, Dmytro Yarosh, leader of the Right Sector delegation in the parliament, has been appointed Parubiy’s Deputy Secretary of the RNBOU. Yarosh was the leader of the Brown Shirt Neo-Nazi paramilitary during the EuroMaidan “protest” movement. He has called for disbanding the Party of the regions and the Communist Party. The neo-Nazi party also controls the judicial process with the appointment of Oleh Makhnitsky of the Svoboda party to the position of prosecutor-general of Ukraine. What kind of justice will prevail with a renowned neo-Nazi in charge of the Prosecutor’s Office of Ukraine? Cabinet positions were also allocated to former members of the neo-Nazi fringe organization Ukrainian National Assembly – Ukrainian National Self Defense (UNA-UNSO):

Tetyana Chernovol, portrayed in the Western press as a crusading investigative journalist without reference to her past involvement in the anti-Semitic UNA-UNSO, was named chair of the government’s anti-corruption committee. Dmytro Bulatov, known for his alleged kidnapping by police, but also with UNA-UNSO connections, was appointed minister of youth and sports. Yegor Sobolev, leader of a civic group in Independence Maidan and politically close to Yatsenyuk, was appointed chair of the Lustration Committee, charged with purging followers of Pres Yanukovych from government and public life.

The Lustration Committee is to organize the neo-Nazi witch-hunt against all opponents of the new neo-Nazi regime. The targets of the lustration campaign are people in positions of authority within the civil service, regional and municipal governments, education, research, etc. The term lustration refers to the “mass disqualification” of people associated with the former government. It also has racial overtones. It will in all likelihood be directed against Communists, Russians  and members of the Jewish community. It is important to reflect on the fact that the West, formally committed to democratic values, has not only spearheaded the demise of an elected president, it has instated a political regime integrated by neo-Nazis. This is a proxy government which enables the US, NATO and EU to interfere in Ukraine’s internal affairs and dismantle its bilateral relations with the Russian Federation. It should be understood, however, that the neo-Nazis do not ultimately call the shots. Under a “regime of indirect rule” they take their orders on crucial military and foreign policy issues, including the deployment of troops directed against the Russian Federation, from the the US State Dept, the Pentagon and NATO. The world is at a dangerous crossroads. The structures and composition of this proxy government installed by the West do not favor dialogue with the Russian government and military. A scenario of military escalation leading to confrontation of Russia and NATO is a distinct possibility. The RNBOU, which is controlled by neo-Nazis, plays a central role in military affairs. In the confrontation with Moscow, decisions taken by the RNBOU headed by neo-Nazi Parubiy and his brownshirt deputy Dmytro Yarosh, in consultation with Washington and Brussels, could potentially have devastating consequences. However, it goes without saying that “support” to the formation of a neo-Nazi government does not in any way imply the development of “fascist tendencies” within the White House, the State Dept and the US Congress. “The flowering of democracy” in Ukraine, to use the words of the NYT,is endorsed by Republicans and Democrats. It’s a bipartisan project. Lest we forget, Senator John McCain is a firm supporter and friend of neo-Nazi Svoboda leader Oleh Tyahnybok.

Ukrainian ultra-rightists given major Cabinet posts in government
Greg Rose, People’s World, Feb 28 2014

The ultra-right Svoboda Party has scored six major cabinet ministries in the government of Arseniy Yatsenyuk approved by the Ukrainian parliament on Thursday. Svoboda is an ultra-right, anti-Semitic, Russophobic party with its base of support in the Western Ukraine. The most important post was claimed by a co-founder of Svoboda, Andriy Parubiy. He was named Secretary of the Security and National Defense Committee, which supervises the defense ministry and the armed forces. The Parubiy appointment to such an important post should, alone, be cause for international outrage. He led the masked Right Sector thugs who battled riot police in the Independence Maidan in Kiev. The Right Sector is an openly fascist, anti-Semitic and anti-Russian organization. Most of the snipers and bomb-throwers in the crowds were connected with this group. Right Sector members have been participating in military training camps for the last two years or more in preparation for street activity of the kind witnessed in the Ukraine over the last few months. The Right Sector, as can be seen by the appointment of Parubiy, is now in a position to control major appointments to the provisional government and has succeeded in achieving its long time goal of legalizing discrimination against Russians. The new parliament has passed legislation that declares Russian speakers no longer have equal rights with Ukrainians. He is also associated with Prime Minister Yatsenyuk’s Fatherland Party. Dmytro Yarosh, leader of the Right Sector delegation in parliament, was named Parubiy’s deputy. These appointments of open fascists to control of the armed forces are particularly alarming given the possibility of provocations against the Russian naval base in Sevastopol. Oleksandr Sych, a Svoboda parliamentarian from Ivano-Frankivsk best known for his attempts to ban all abortions in Ukraine, including those resulting from rape, was named deputy prime minister for economic affairs. Svoboda was also rewarded with the Education Ministry under Serhiy Kvit, as well as the Ecology Ministry and the Agriculture Ministry under Andriy Makhnyk and Ihor Shvaiko, respectively. Earlier in the week Svoboda member of parliament Oleh Makhnitsky was named prosecutor-general of the Ukraine.

Others with ultra-right associations with the Ukrainian National Assembly – Ukrainian National Self Defense (UNA-UNSO) also received cabinet posts. Yaysenuyk’s Fatherland Party, and figures close to it, obtained ten cabinet posts, including deputy prime minister for EU integration, interior, justice, energy, infrastructure, defense, culture, social issues, and a minister without portfolio. Yegor Sobolev, leader of a civic group in Independence Maidan and politically close to Yatsenyuk, was appointed chair of the Lustration Committee, charged with purging followers of Pres Yanukovych from government and public life. In a society where oligarchs play such an important political and economic role it is unsurprising that Volodymyr Groysman, mayor of Vinnytsa and close associate of oligarch Petro Poroshenko, was chosen as deputy prime minister for regional affairs. Groysman was also close to former Pres Yushchenko. The new finance minister, Oleksander Shlapak, is a representative of oligarch Ihor Kolomoyskiy, the second wealthiest man in the Ukraine. The remaining cabinet posts went to technocrats, a doctor who organized medical services for the Maidan protestors, and a retired police general. The interim cabinet matches exactly the government which US Asst Sec State for European and Eurasian Affairs Toria Nuland recommended in her intercepted call with the US ambassador in Kiev where she revealed the US plan for a coup in Ukraine. Vitali Klitschko and his UDAR party are excluded, likely because of their close relationship with German chancellor Angela Merkel. Yatsenuyk’s Fatherland Party receives the majority of portfolios. And as Nuland demanded, so long as Svoboda leader Oleh Tyahnybok did not receive a major cabinet post, Svoboda could receive several ministries. In the eyes of many these facts are indicative of US involvement in what has essentially been a coup against the elected government of the Ukraine.

Finally, here’s something the old prof did a week ago, rather hysterical but why not:

Ukraine and the Politics of Anti-Semitism
Michel Chossudovsky, Global Research, Feb 26 2014

The US and the  EU are supporting the formation of  a coalition government integrated by Neo-Nazis which are directly involved in the repression of the Ukrainian Jewish community. There are about 200,000 Jews living in Ukraine, most of them in Kiev. This community is described as “one of the most vibrant Jewish communities in the world, with dozens of active Jewish organizations and institutions.” A significant part of this community is made up of family members of holocaust survivors. “Three million Ukrainians were murdered by the Nazis during their occupation of Ukraine, including 900,000 Jews.” (indybay.org, Jan 29 2014). Ukrainian Jews were the target of the Third Reich’s Einsatzgruppen (Task Groups or Deployment Groups) which were supported by Ukrainian Nazi collaborators (Wikipedia). These “task forces” were paramilitary death squads deployed in occupied territories. While the Western media has not covered the issue, the contemporary Neo-Nazi threat against the Jewish community in the Ukraine is real. Ukrainian neo-Nazis pay tribute to Stepan Bandera, a WW2-era Nazi collaborator who led the pro-Nazi Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN-B). The contemporary Neo-Nazi Svoboda Party which is supported by Washington follows in the footsteps of the OUN-B. Reports from Kiev confirm that the Jewish community is the target of the Right Sector and the neo-Nazi Svoboda party, which is supported and financed through various channels by Washington and Brussels (JN, Feb 24 2014):

Ukrainian Rabbi Moshe Reuven Azman asked Kiev Jews to leave the city and, if possible, the country, due to fears that Jews might be targeted in the ongoing chaos … Some Jewish shops have been vandalized and other threats to the Jewish community have been received. “I told my congregation to leave the city center or the city all together and if possible the country too … I don’t want to tempt fate … but there are constant warnings concerning intentions to attack Jewish institutions,” Rabbi Azman told Ma’ariv.

The leaders of the Ukrainian Jewish Community contacted Israel’s Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman requesting the assistance of Israel. (Edward Dolinsky, head of the umbrella organization of Ukraine’s Jews). Israel, which is unofficially a member of the Western military alliance, has remained mum on the subject: Realpolitik uber alles. No statement has emanated from Tel Aviv.  The Israeli government has not responded to the request of the Ukrainian Jewish Community nor has it made any statements. AIPAC has not taken a stance on the issue. Not a word from Netanyahu. Within the Western media, news coverage of the neo-Nazi threat to the Jewish community in Ukraine is a taboo. There is a complete media blackout, confirmed by Google News search, mainstream coverage of the threat to the Jewish community in Ukraine is virtually absent. An article in the current issue of the NYRB constitutes the pinnacle of falsehood and media distortion. The Jewish community in Ukraine is portrayed as an unbending supporter of the Maidan protest movement led by Right Sector neo-Nazis:

The protesters represent every group of Ukrainian citizens: Russian speakers and Ukrainian speakers (although most Ukrainians are bilingual), people from the cities and the countryside, people from all regions of the country, members of all political parties, the young and the old, Christians, Muslims, and Jews. Every major Christian denomination is represented by believers and most of them by clergy. The Crimean Tatars march in impressive numbers, and Jewish leaders have made a point of supporting the movement.

In its broader coverage of the Ukraine “protest movement,” the Western media has failed to acknowledge the nature of the opposition, casually referring to “radical elements.” What is not mentioned is that these “radical elements” supported and financed by the West are neo-Nazis who are waging a hate campaign against Ukraine’s Jewish community. The Israeli media toes the line. The hate campaign against the Ukrainian Jewish community is not the object of concern. The JPost casually dismisses the evidence of crimes committed against Ukraine’s Jewish community under the title, Ukraine’s Jews ponder their future (Feb 24 2014):

“Although there is “no information of Jews being targeted” as of yet, Jewish institutions are under self-imposed lock-down”.

According to the JPost, there is no “defined threat against them”:

There is currently “no information of Jews being targeted, but there is a danger because of vigilante groups,” Chief Rabbi Yaakov Bleich told the JPost on Sunday. “We have not seen any random attacks and we hope people are basically interested in law and order and not in mayhem,” he said, expressing his hope that protesters would begin turning in their arms tomorrow as scheduled. “We are definitely worried about security and everybody should keep their guard up,” the US-born rabbi cautioned. “That’s because of the general situation. There are no threats that we know of.” … There is a great deal of uncertainty among Kiev’s Jews, said one community member, speaking anonymously. She said that while there has been no direct threat against Jewish institutions, two Jews were attacked during the protests and the general feeling of insecurity pervading the city has affected its Jews as well. Things will calm down within a week, but life is still far from normal at the moment, she said.

According to “expert opinion” quoted by the JP, the spread of swastikas in Kiev’s urban landscape should be of no concern. According to Vyacheslav Likhachev, “an expert on the far-right associated with the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress”, the Svoboda Neo-Nazi activists are not attacking Jews. In an utterly twisted logic expert Likhachev quoted by the JP intimates that the (former) Yanukovych government is responsible for anti-semitic violence;

The two incidents of anti-Semitic violence since the beginning of the protests, he alleged, were most likely provocations by the government looking for a pretext to clamp down on its political opponents. “There is no real special danger for the Jewish community due to anti-Semitism from protesters,” he said. According to Likhachev, the authorities tried to recruit him to take part in a propaganda campaign against the protesters and he believes that, given the lack of emphasis placed on Jews and other ethnic minorities by the opposition, including such factions as Svoboda, it is more likely that the attacks were part of this alleged campaign.

According to the JP, the issue is one of “transition,” which will be resolved once a new government is installed:

Despite his [Likhashov’s] optimism, fear pervades the local Jewish community, as it does the entire Ukraine, during the transition period.

Ironically, while the Israeli media dismisses the matter, the Arab media has provided a far more balanced assessment of the threat to the Jewish community in Ukraine (John Batchelor, al-Jazeera, Feb 25 2014):

Rabbis in Kiev and across Ukraine spoke out, warning their congregations to stay off the streets and remain in their homes. The Jewish Agency in Jayloomia has moved swiftly to offer aid to elderly Jews living in greater Kiev. Food-delivery men are braving gunshots and Molotov cocktails to help them. Reports from Kiev say the police have been replaced by roving bands of undetermined loyalty … The fresh report of the firebombing of a new synagogue in Zaporizhia, 250 miles southeast of Kiev, increased the alarm in Israel and accelerated planning for all contingencies, including evacuations.

Ironically, while renowned scholars critical of the State of Israel for violating the fundamental rights of Plastelinans are accused of being “anti-semitic”, nobody bats an eye lid when Walnuts McCain, Toria Nuland, Catherine Ashton, Jackass Kerry, Francois Hollande and Angela Merkel (among others) openly pay lip service to neo-Nazism in the Ukraine. Is the Western media “anti-semitic” when it fails to report crimes committed against the Jewish population in Ukraine? Is the self-proclaimed “international community” anti-semitic when it upholds in the name of “democracy” a “protest movement” led by neo-Nazis? Is Netanyahu an anti-Semite by tacitly supporting  US-EU-NATO geopolitical interests in Ukraine, with total disregard to the rising tide of fascism and anti-Semitism?
