Number of planned West Bank
settlements homes spirals

Peace Now spox Hagit Ofran told AFP:
The number of West Bank
settlementshomes Israel plans to build more than tripled in the first quarter of 2016 compared to the same period last year, Between January and March, plans for 674 homes passed at least one of the steps in the planning approval process, up from 194 in the first quarter of 2015. They must pass through five stages before winning final approval. In all of 2015, planning for 1,665 homes passed, a substantial decrease from 2014 in which 8,606 new homes passed, but since the start of 2016 the trend has been completely reversed. The figures for 2016 show that the government is quietly continuing settlement activity with the aim of rendering impossible the implementation of the two-state plan.
PA Pres Abbas meanwhile spoke in an interview with AFP of the pressing need for a UNSCR condemning Israeli settlements. The PA have begun circulating a draft of such a resolution. Abbas said late Monday at his office in Ramallah:
It has now become urgent, due to settlement activities and because Israel has not stopped these activities. It is something that has seriously jeopardised the two-state project.
Abbas left on Tuesday at the start of a two-week tour that will take him to Turkey, France, Russia, Germany and New York.
