Jewish Labour donor compares Jeremy Corbyn’s inner circle to Nazi stormtroopers
Ben Riley-Smith, Telegraph, Aug 14 2016
A Jewish Labour donor has compared Jeremy Corbyn’s inner circle to Nazi stormtroopers as the party’s infighting escalated once again over the weekend. Michael Foster, who has given hundreds of thousands of pound to the party, refered to the Labour leader’s aides as Sturmabteilung, the full name for Adolf Hitler’s SA. The criticism came in a scathing piece Mr Foster penned in the Mail on Sunday about the direction of the party under Mr Corbyn. Earlier this summer, Mr Foster went to court to try and force Mr Corbyn to get the backing of 51 MPs or MEPs to run for the leadership after a battle over the interpretation of party rules. Mr Foster writes of his failed legal bid:
The courts decided that the rules as they stand allowed it. This decision advantaged Corbyn and his Sturm Abteilung.
He then goes on to praise a separate legal case which saw a court decide that Labour was allowed to block 130,000 new party members from voting in the leadership contest. Mr Foster writes:
On Friday afternoon the Appeal Court handed down a big decision for British democracy. It disallowed the attempt by arriviste followers of Corbyn to flood the Labour electoral college. This caused the mask of reasonableness of the Corbynista leadership to slip even further.
During the piece, Mr Foster is also critical of the policy position and approach Mr Corbyn has taken since he won the leadership last summer. He discusses attending a rally for Mr Corbyn in Cornwall, saying:
From where I stood in that evangelical crowd, I saw what we have all witnessed across Britain for a year: a brand of politics alien to this country, defined and delivered by a divisive, aggressive holier-than-thou cadre of hard-Left socialists with no real policies to speak of, no defined social and economic objectives, just a call for the committed to take this journey with them down the Yellow Brick Road. In the midst of this, something is rotten. You are either with them, or you are labelled as being against them and so excluded, briefed against, often threatened and intimidated. If you are like me, a Jewish donor to Labour, you are smeared as a Blairite conspirator, plotting to falsely use the accusation of anti-Semitism to damage the Left.
