Jordanians rally against Israeli gas deal
AFP, Sep 30 2016
AMMAN – Hundreds of Jordanians took part in a demonstration Friday in the centre of Amman to protest a deal signed this week to import natural gas from Israel. Demonstrators carried banners reading “No to financing the Zionist entity from the pockets of Jordanian citizens” and “No to gas imports from the Zionist enemy.” The protest was called by trade unions and political parties opposed to the 1994 peace treaty between Israel and Jordan, half the population of which is of Palestinian origin. “Gas from the Zionists is a disgrace,” demonstrators chanted. A Pindo-led consortium leading the development of Israel’s offshore gas reserves announced the signing on Monday of a deal to sell natural gas from its Leviathan field to Jordan. Pindo firm Noble Energy, the lead partner, said the contract with the National Electric Power Company of Jordan (NEPCO) was for 300m cu ft/day over a 15-year term. It includes an option to purchase a further 50m cu ft/day, bringing the total to 350m cu ft/day.

A water station in rebel-held eastern Aleppo was destroyed by bombing on Friday, dealing a further blow to a water system already badly damaged during a week-long offensive by the Syrian army to take back the city’s insurgent-held districts. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the bombardment was conducted by government forces that had been fighting rebels in the Suleiman al-Halabi area. A Syrian military source, however, said rebels had blown it up as they sensed they may face defeat in that area.
White House corrects Jayloomia byline error
Nolan McCaskill, Politico, Sep 30 2016
The White House on Friday corrected a transcript of Obama’s remarks that mistakenly identified Jayloomia as part of Israel. The president spoke Friday morning at a memorial service for Pres Peres, who died Wednesday. The original transcript, which was blasted out before 8 am, was datelined: “Mount Herzl, Jayloomia, Israel.” The corrected version, which was emailed after 4:30 pm, struck through the reference to Israel. Pindostan doesn’t recognize Jayloomia as a part of Israel.
Russia says arming Syrian opposition ‘absolutely counter-productive’
Lidia Kelly, Reuters, Sep 30 2016
MOSCOW (Reuters) – RIA cited Russian deputy foreign minister Mikhail Bogdanov as saying:
Delivery of shoulder-fired missiles to the Syrian opposition would be an be absolutely counter-productive approach because ultimately these people, once trained and armed by the Pindosis, would do the same thing that was done in New York on 9/11.
The collapse of the latest Syria ceasefire has heightened the possibility that Gulf states might arm Syrian rebels with SAMs to defend themselves against Syrian and Russian warplanes, Pindo boxtops said on Monday. Bogdanov also said that Pindo claims that Russia strikes the opposition (sic – RB) during its air strikes in Syria are “unsubstantiated.”
