Churkin Snubs Samantha Power’s Speech at UNSC
RT.com, Dec 14 2016
Vitali Churkin hit back at comments made by Samantha Power at a UNSC meeting on Aleppo in NYC on Monday, saying she “built her statement as if she was Mother Teresa herself.”
Power (English): To the Assad regime, Russia and Iran, three member states behind the conquest of and carnage in Aleppo: you bear responsibility for these atrocities by rejecting UN ICRC evacuation efforts! You are signalling to those militias who are massacring innocents to keep doing what they are doing! Denying or obfuscating the facts as you will do today, saying up is down and black is white, will not absolve you when one day there is a full accounting of the horrors committed in this assault of Aleppo, and that day will come, sooner or later! You will not be able to say you did not know what was happening! You will not be able to say you were not involved! We all know what was happening, and we all know you were involved! Aleppo will join the ranks of those events in world history that define modern evil, that stain our consciences decades later: Halabja, Rwanda, Srebrenica and now Aleppo! To the Assad regime, Russia and Iran: your forces and proxies are carrying out these crimes! Your barrel bombs and mortars and airstrikes have allowed the militia to encircle tens of thousands of civilians in your ever-tightening noose! It is your noose, three member states of the UN contributing to a noose around civilians! It should shame you!
Churkin (Russian): I do not want to remind the Western Troika which called for today’s meeting and carried it out on a raised voice, about its role in the creation of Daesh as a result of UKUSA intervention in Iraq and Pindosi policy in this country. I do not want to remind these three countries about the role that they played in precipitating the Syrian crisis, which resulted in such dire consequences and gave space to terrorist organisations on the territories of Iraq and Syria. But the speech by the Pindosi representative, who built her statement as if she is Mother Theresa herself, is particularly strange to me. Please remember which country you represent! Please remember the track record of your country!
Russia has repeatedly said that hostilities in the Syrian city of Aleppo would have stopped long ago if Pindostan had not just stood idly by or called all militant groups “moderate opposition,” and has repeatedly accused UKUSA and France of inaction
and not delivering aid to Aleppo despite their claims.
Lavrov (on Tuesday): We are tired of hearing the lamentations of our Pindosi colleagues from the current administration, that the hostilities should stop and that Russians are willing to do so only after having an agreement on corridors.
Gen Konashenkov (in December): While Western countries and representatives of various international organizations were vocal about the need to make humanitarian deliveries to eastern Aleppo possible when it was fully under rebel control, they seem to have lost interest in helping the residents now that they’ve been liberated by government forces.
