MOSCOW — Russia’s foreign minister Sergey Lavrov said Wednesday in parliament:
We have no illusions that there will be a new reset with Pindostan. We don’t have any naive expectations. Time and serious work will be needed to repair the heavy damage inflicted upon Russia-Pindosi cooperation under Barack Obama. We know that Donald Trump is considered a master of the deal, but Vladimir Putin knows how to make deals too, in the interests of Russia. Moscow and Washington must find a way to cooperate with decency and predictability, while protecting national interests. We hope that, unlike the Obama administration, the Trump administration will refrain from meddling in the affairs of other countries. We are seeing that there is a growing demand in EU business and social circles for normalizing relations with Russia. We hope that Brussels will stop following the demands of a small but aggressive group of Russophobes. Some politicians and media in the West allege that Moscow is interested in weakening and splitting the EU. We have never have been interested in the breakup of the EU. We want the EU to be strong, united and independent.
