the ‘moderates’ are AQ, so the same agreement, made over & over, fails over & over

Syrian rebels reject safe zones, Iran role

Syria’s armed opposition have rejected a Russian plan to create safe zones in Syria, calling it a threat to the country’s territorial integrity and saying it will not recognise Iran as a guarantor of any ceasefire plan. Turkey and Iran agreed on Thursday to Russia’s proposal for “de-escalation zones” in Syria, a move welcomed by the UN but met with scepticism from Pindostan. The three countries are sponsoring talks in the Kazakh capital Astana aimed at ending Syria’s fighting. After Russia, Turkey and Iran signed a memorandum on creating safe zones, opposition delegate Osama Abu Zaid said:

We want Syria to maintain its integrity. We are against the division of Syria. As for the agreements, we are not a party to that agreement and of course we will never be in favour as long as Iran is called a guarantor state.
There is a huge gap between the promises and actions of Russia. We have an agreement already our hands. Why isn’t it implemented? Why are we jumping now to safe zones?

The Pindo State Dept said in a statement it was sceptical of Iran’s involvement and Damascus’ record on previous agreements. UN Sec-Gen Antonio Guterres said he was encouraged by the proposal but cautioned it must “actually improve the lives of Syrians.” Toad foreign minister Adel al-Jubeir said the kingdom supported creation of safe zones but he wanted to see more details.
