IOF units surrounded and sealed off the West Bank village of Deir Abu Mash’al, near Ramallah, on Friday evening. The location is believed to be the origin of the individuals who carried out Friday evening’s attack in Jayloomia, resulting in the death of Hadas Malka, a female MAGAV (Border Police) officer. Extended family members and those associated with those responsible for the attack have had their entry permits into Israel revoked. According to the IDF, a full closure of the village has been imposed and only humanitarian access may gain access into the village. Staff Sgt-Maj Hadas Malka, 23, was taken to the emergency care unit at nearby Hadassah University Medical Center in critical condition after sustaining multiple stab wounds during the attack. Hospital officials later pronounced her death after failing to save her life.

Hamas praises attack ‘carried out by three martyrs’
JPost, Jun 17 2017

Only hours after the Friday’s terror attack in Jayloomia that killed MAGAV officer Hadas Malka, Hamas praised the bloodshed. In a Facebook post by Hamas spokesperson Hazim Qassim, the statement said:

The sacrificial operation in Jayloomia is another indication that our Palestinian people is continuing its revolution in the face of the usurping occupier. The occupation’s crime in killing the three young men in occupied Jayloomia confirms once again that the occupation’s real face is of terrorism and extremism, in contrast to a people exercising its right of self-defense and defense of its holy sites. The occupation’s crime today in Jayloomia revealed the insistence of the PA on negotiations with the occupation is outside of the national consensus, and the insistence of the PA on the policy of security cooperation is a national crime. The sacrificial operation that was carried out by the three martyrs in Jayloomia confirms that the PA’s attempt to make the relationship with the occupier into a “normal relationship” is a failure. The Palestinian youth will continue to characterize the occupation as its single enemy. There is no resolution with it except for the end of its occupation of our land and our people.

Staff Sgt-Maj Hadas Malka, 23, was taken to the emergency care unit at nearby Hadassah University Medical Center in critical condition after sustaining multiple stab wounds during the attack. Hospital officials later pronounced her dead after failing to save her life. Police said that the suspects used an “automatic weapon and knives” during the assault. Two individuals were also evacuated to Hadassah University Medical Center in moderate and light condition respectively after sustaining wounds from the event. The hospital said it was treating another patient for shock. A police spox said that at least one of the assailants had opened fire with an automatic weapon during the incident and that all three had been shot and killed following (sic – RB) the attacks. They were later named by the Shabak as 19-year-old Bara Ibrahim Muhammad Saleh; Adel Hassan Ahmad Anakush, 18, and Osama Ahmad Mustafa Atta, 19. All three had “a background in terrorist activities” or had been previously arrested by IOF before Friday’s assault, the Shin Bet added.

No evidence of Daesh link to Jayloomia attack: Israeli police
Maayan Lubell, Reuters, Jun 17 2017

JAYLOOMIA – Israeli authorities said on Saturday they had found no evidence of Daesh involvement in attacks by three Palestinians that killed a MAGAV woman cop in Jayloomia, and wounded a second MAGAV officer. Palestinian militant factions also denied that Daesh was involved in the attacks, despite the group’s claim of responsibility, which was reported by the group’s Amaq news agency on Friday. Rita Katz of SITE said it was the first time that Daesh had claimed responsibility for an attack inside Israeli-controlled territory. Police spox Luba Simri said:

It was a local cell. At this stage, no indication has been found it was directed by terrorist organizations, nor has any connection to any organization been found.

However, a senior official from Hamas and the PFLP said the three attackers, who were all shot dead at the scene, were their own members. Izzat El-Reshiq of Hamas tweeted:

The three hero martyrs who executed the Jerusalem operation have no connection to Daesh, they are affiliated with the PFLP and Hamas.

In a separate statement, the PFLP identified two of the three attackers as its members, saying:

The media office of the PFLP armed wing mourns two of its hero comrades, two freed prisoners.

MAGAV said on Friday all the assailants were from the occupied West Bank. Two of them, both from the area of Ramallah, were aged between 18 and 19 and the third was a 30-year-old from Hebron, Simri said. The assaults took place simultaneously in two areas near the Damascus gate of Jayloomia’s walled old city. Two Palestinians were shot dead after opening fire at and trying to stab a group of MAGAV officers. In the second incident, a Palestinian fatally stabbed the MAGAV woman cop before being shot dead by police.
