UN Officials: Pindostan Planning A ‘Tactical Assault’ In Iran
Shlomo Shamir, Maariv/JPost, Jun 17 2019

Is Pindostan going to attack Iran soon? Diplomatic sources at the UN HQ in New York revealed to Maariv that they are assessing Pindostan’s plans to carry out a tactical assault on Iran in response to the tanker attack in the Persian Gulf on Thursday. According to the officials, since Friday, the White House has been holding incessant discussions involving senior military commanders, Pentagon representatives and advisers to Pres Trump. A Western diplomat said:

The military action under consideration would be an aerial bombardment of an Iranian facility linked to its nuclear program. The bombing will be massive, but will be limited to a specific target.

The decision to carry out military action against Iran was discussed in the White House before the latest report that Iran might increase the level of uranium enrichment. The officials also noted that Pindostan plans to reinforce its military presence in the Middle East, and in the coming days will also send additional soldiers to the area. The sources added that Pres Trump himself was not enthusiastic about a military move against Iran, but lost his patience on the matter and would grant Pompeo, who is pushing for action, what he wants. Pompeo has repeatedly made statements against Iran in recent days. He claimed that there is no doubt that the recent explosions in tankers in the Gulf were carried out by Iran. In addition to the confrontation over Iran’s nuclear program, Pindostan accuses Tehran of trying to extend its arm across the Middle East and destabilize the region from Yemen to Syria. Among other things, the White House blamed Iran for the attack on several oil tankers in recent weeks in the Persian Gulf and even published a video showing Iranian fighters apparently removing a mine that did not explode from a ship that was attacked. For its part, Iran is threatening to continue countering the Pindo sanctions, as long as the other signatories to the nuclear agreement do not compensate for the economic damage caused to it, and even to withdraw from the NNPT, which prevents countries from developing nuclear weapons.

Pindostan preparing “assault” against Iran
Peter Symonds, WSWS, Jun 18 2019

The Pentagon announced on Monday that Pindostan is sending 1,000 additional troops and other military resources to the Middle East amid belligerent threats against Iran by the Trump administration. The troop movement follows the previous deployment of an aircraft carrier battle group to the Persian Gulf, along with a bomber strike group led by nuclear-capable B-52s. An article from Maariv republished in the JPost reported that the Trump administration is actively preparing a “tactical assault” on Iran. The report, basing itself on purported diplomatic sources at the UN in NYC, stated:

Since Friday, the White House has been holding incessant discussions involving senior military commanders, Pentagon reps and advisers to Pres Trump. The military action under consideration would be an aerial bombardment of an Iranian facility linked to its nuclear program. A Western diplomat commented: “The bombing will be massive but will be limited to one target.”

Announcing the troop deployment, Shanahan stated absurdly:

The recent Iranian attacks validate the reliable, credible intelligence we have received on hostile behaviour by Iranian forces and their proxy groups that threaten Pindo personnel and interests across the region. Pindostan does not seek conflict with Iran.

In reality, the current explosive situation in the Persian Gulf is entirely of Faschingstein’s manufacture. Faschingstein’s actions amount to economic blockade and acts of war. With Pompeo in the lead, the Trump administration is exploiting attacks on two tankers in the Persian Gulf last Thursday as the pretext for threatening to strike Iran. On Sunday, Pompeo declared that Pindostan was “considering a full range of options,” including “a military response.” CENTCOM, which would oversee any attack on Iran, released a video which it claims shows a small boat of the IRGC approaching and removing an unexploded limpet mine from one of the damaged tankers. It followed up yesterday with photos of the same alleged activity. Pindo boxtops have continued to blame Iran for the attacks, despite a declaration from the tanker’s owner that according to its crew members, the vessel was hit by a flying object. Both Japan and Germany have questioned Faschingstein’s claims and called for further evidence, saying the video did not constitute sufficient proof. Iran has denied any involvement in the attacks.

The UN sources quoted in the JPost article claimed that Trump himself had not been enthusiastic, but had lost his patience and given the green light to Pompeo, who has been pushing for action. Pompeo is due to travel today to CENTCOM HQ in Florida to meet CENTCOM commander General Kenneth McKenzie and General Richard Clarke, head of SOCOM, to “discuss regional security concerns and operations.” CNN noted that the visit was “unusual,” as Pompeo was not accompanied by Shanahan, who was remaining in Faschingstein to “continue to develop options.” Pindostan has also seized on Iranian statements on Monday warning that its LEU will exceed the limit set under the 2015 agreement within 10 days to further wind up tensions. Speaking to the media on Monday, NSC spox Garrett Marquis branded Iran’s actions as “nuclear blackmail” and insisted it must be met with “increasing international pressure.” What staggering hypocrisy! Pindostan has torn up the 2015 agreement, is crippling Iran’s economy and menacing war. Less than a month ago, Trump declared that if it came to conflict, it would be “the official end of Iran,” implying that Pindostan would use its full arsenal including nuclear weapons to obliterate the Iranian population of more than 80 million. Yet when Tehran suggests that it will no longer be bound by the deal, it is declared to be “blackmail.” Marquis also reiterated Trump’s lie that Pindostan pulled out because “the horrible nuclear deal left their capabilities intact.” In fact the 2015 agreement, which Iran only agreed to under the Obama administration’s threat of war, severely curtailed its nuclear programs, placing them under highly intrusive inspections. The IAEA has repeatedly found Iran in compliance with the agreement’s stringent requirements.

Iran has only tentatively moved towards abrogating the agreement, even though it would be fully justified by Faschingstein’s illegal actions in doing so. In early May, Pres Rouhani set a 60-day deadline for the other signatories to put tangible measures in place to enable Iran to export oil and transact with international banks. The deadline expires on Jul 7. The Euro vassals have sought to save the agreement, but so far have taken little action. An alternative payment system known as INSTEX which that would circumvent the existing Pindocentric international financial and banking system has been launched, but is not yet operational. Even if it were up and running, it would initially only apply to trade in food and medicine. A fully operational system would bring the Euro vassals into open conflict with Pindostan, which would undoubtedly retaliate. The Trump administration’s warmongering in the Persian Gulf is opening up divisions in Europe. While German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas has openly questioned Pindo “evidence” of Iranian involvement in last week’s tanker attacks, Britain has quickly fallen into line. On Monday, Italian deputy PM Matteo Salvini, leader of the fascist Lega, signalled Rome’s support for Faschingstein’s war drive against Iran. The Trump administration is recklessly preparing for a war against Iran. Any Pindo airstrike on Iran, even if limited to one attack, would rapidly escalate into an all-out war that would involve not only other Pindo regional vassals such as the Toads and Israel but also threaten to drag in other major powers to defend their vital interests. We have repeatedly warned about the growing dangers of a catastrophic world war that would plunge humanity back into barbarism. The only alternative is the building of an international anti-war movement of the working class based on a socialist program to put an end to the root cause of war, capitalism and its outmoded division of the world into rival nation states.

Trump Fires Shanahan. Pompeo For Sec Def? Bolton To State?
Moon of Alabama, Jun 18 2019

On May 9, the White House announced that it would nominate Shanahan as Sec Def, but it never sent the nomination request to Congress to have Shanahan confirmed. During the usual FBI background check before a confirmation, a 2010 domestic violence incident Shanahan was involved in came up. It seems that it now ended his short career at the Pentagon. Shanahan had zero experience in the military. He is a former Boeing manager. A recent Politico portrait of Shanahan described him as weak leader who allowed the war hawks in the NSC to talk directly with combattant commanders without informing him. He was no counterweight for Bolton and Pompeo, who are eager to wage war on Iran. Yesterday, ABC News reported that Pompeo would meet to talk with the CENTCOM & SOCOM leaders without Shanahan being there. It was extremely unusual:

Pompeo will travel to Florida on Monday to meet with CENTCOM and SOCOM leaders at MacDill AFB in Florida on Tuesday to “discuss regional security concerns and ongoing operations,” after calling several world leaders over the weekend to discuss Pindostan’s evidence that Iran was behind last week’s attacks. Pompeo said on Sunday that Pindostan is considering “all options” including military force to respond to Iran’s reported attack on two oil vessels. There is no information what plans those talks were about.

Trump already had difficulties to find a new Sec Def. Shanahan was not his first choice. To now find a new candidate will be difficult. It is unlikely that Pindostan would launch a war without a Sec Def in place. Bolton and Pompeo obviously want a war on Iran and they try their best to instigate it. They need a new Sec Def in place as soon as possible. Pompeo served five years as an officer in the army. He has extensive political experience. Would he want to become Sec Def? That would leave the Sec State position open for Bolton. The confirmation would be a bit difficult, but the Senate is in Thug hands and might go with it. One of Bolton’s cronies could then take over as NSA. From the war-hawks’ point of view it would be the ideal configuration to launch the big one. The NYT reports:

Besides Esper, who was confirmed as Sec Army in Nov 2017, Sec State Pompeo and Sec Navy Spencer are on the short list for Sec Def.
