Russia Uses Iranian Mohajer-6 Uavs In Ukraine
South Front, Sep 23 2022

Ukrainians fished out an Iranian Mohajer-6 UAV in the Black Sea near Odessa. This is the first evidence of their use by Russian forces in Ukraine. Iranian Mohajer-6 was likely adjusting strikes of Russia’s Geranium-2 (Iranian Shahed-136) suicide drones in Odessa. Russians likely lost control over the UAV and it fell in the Black Sea. Last month, US and other Western intelligence officials claimed that Iran had transferred at least 300 UAVs to Russia, including Mohajer-6. Moscow and Teheran do not officially confirm the supply of Iranian UAVs to Russian forces. However, the Russian military have been actively using Iranian-made Shahed-136 UAVs, rebranded as Geranium-2, in the recent weeks. Mohajer-6 has been produced since 2017. The UAV is aimed at reconnaissance, surveillance and attacks. It may carry up to 4 high-precision ammunition. Its flight range is up to 200 km at a speed of 200 km/h. The UAV may fly up to 12 hours with the maximum flight altitude of 5400 m.

Russian-Led Forces Claim Victories In Gorlovka Region, DPR
South Front, Sep 23 2022

On Sep 22, the headquarters of the DPR territorial defense confirmed the control of Russian-led forces of the village of Zhovanka located to the north of Gorlovka. Allied forces entered Zhovanka on Sep 19. In three days it came under their control. After the recent advance, Russian-led forces are expected to advance to the north towards Kurdyumovka, from where the AFU are shelling the residential areas of the DPR. Earlier on Sep 19, the 3rd brigade of the DPR knocked the AFU out of the fortified area near Gorlovka and took control of the area near Zaitsevo, which was divided into two parts. Russian forces were in control of Lower Zaitsevo and Lower Duvanka, while the AFU held their positions in Upper Zaitsevo and Upper Zhovanka. The village of Zaitseve came under Russian control a few weeks ago, after the Ukrainian grouping was half surrounded. Several hundred of well-armed militants from the special forces, marines and paratroopers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were deployed in the area. After liberation of Zaitsevo, LDPR troops supported by the Russian military also entered Mayorskoe, located a few kilometers to the east.

Ukrainian Forces Targeted Crimea With Chinese-Made Drones
South Front, Sep 23 2022

On Sep 22, three UAVs of the AFU were shot down by Russian forces, in three districts of the Republic of Crimea. The head of the Crimea Sergey Aksyonov confirmed that the AFU drones were suppressed by electronic warfare systems and shot down by air defense forces. The UAVs failed to reach their targets. One of the drones fell in the Dzhankoy region located in the north of the peninsula, bordering the Kherson region. Another UAV was destroyed in the Black Sea near Sevastopol.

According to the footage shared online, at least one of the UAVs used by the Ukrainian military was a Mugin-5 drone made by the Chinese company Mugin UAV, which is available on the commercial market. It can be bought for about $13k and equipped with a warhead and necessary military equipment. The Ukrainian military used this type of UAVs in the attack on the headquarters of the Black Sea Fleet in Sevastopol, as well as earlier in June in the attack on the Novoshakhtinsky oil refinery in the Rostov region.

Russia’s Geranium-2 UAVS Hit Targets In Odessa
South Front, Sep 23 2022

On Sep 23, Russian Geranium-2 UAVs hit several targets in the city of Odessa. Ukrainian forces attempted to intercept drones with small arms, but failed. The Ukrainian military aircraft were also reportedly deployed to hunt for the UAVs but in vain. In the afternoon, citizens of Odessa shared numerous videos showing Russian UAVs hitting Ukrainian military facilities in the city. The eyewitnesses reported that the air alarm was not turned on in the city. At least one of the kamikaze UAVs struck Ukrainian facilities near the city port. Judging by the video, the drone hit a building on Primorskaya Street, 34 in the area of the city port. Units of the 35th and 36th brigades of the AFU Marines are reportedly located in this area. Local sources report that several ambulances arrived in the hit area.

Explosions were also reported in other districts of Odessa. Ukrainian sources reported that one of the targets of the attack was a gas station in one of the Odessa districts. However, the reports were later refuted. The incident was caused by a damaged gas cylinder. The Geranium-2 UAVs were recently deployed by the Russian military in Ukraine but they have already proved their efficiency. The Russian military is using Iranian-made Shahed-136 suicide drone, repainted in Russian colors and rebranded as Geranium-2. The Shahed-136 has a range of more than 2,500 km and can be armed with a warhead weighting around 50 kg. The drone is guided by a satellite-aided inertial navigation system. According to the WSJ report, the drone has high resistance to jamming. The introduction of longer-range suicide drones similar to the Shahed-136 makes the situation worse for Ukrainian forces. Just in the last few days, Geranium-2s were used against the Ukrainian military objects in Ochakov and Krivoy Rog, as evidenced by the Ukrainian side. They have also destroyed foreign artillery systems in the Kharkov region.
