um… yehuda hiss sold organs for research, not transplant

Illicit Body-Part Sales Present Widespread Problem
Rebecca Dube, Forward, Aug 26 2009

When an article in a Swedish newspaper asserted that Israeli soldiers were snatching and killing Palestinian men to harvest their organs for transplant, Israelis reacted with outrage. To be certain, the most incendiary claims in the story, which was published Aug 17 in Sweden’s largest daily newspaper, Aftonbladet, are clearly false. There is no evidence that Israeli soldiers are killing Palestinians for their organs, and there is no evidence linking those organ-stealing allegations, as the article’s author did, to the July arrest of a suspected black-market kidney broker in New Jersey, Levy Izhak Rosenbaum. Israeli leaders and citizens alike have denounced the article, as well as the refusal of Swedish government leaders to condemn it. An online petition calling for a boycott of such Swedish retailers as IKEA, Volvo, H&M and BabyBjörn has garnered more than 12,000 signatures. But one part of the discredited Swedish story, the question of what happens to bodies after they arrive at morgues, whether dead from violence or from natural causes, may be worth closer examination.

Black-market sales of organs taken from bodies without family consent is an international problem, one that has sparked scandals in both the US and Israel, said Nancy Scheper-Hughes, who is a medical anthropologist at the University of California, Berkeley, and an expert in global organ trafficking. “Around the world, poor people are terrified of their bodies ending up in a morgue, and really they should be,” Scheper-Hughes told the Forward. Ghastly stories of illicit organ sales abound. At the University of California, Irvine, the director of the medical school’s willed-body program was fired in 1999 after the university said he sold spines from donated bodies to a private research firm. A morgue employee at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston was fired in 2002 after a university audit found evidence that he’d been selling body parts for illegal profit, including more than 200 fingernails to a pharmaceutical company. And just last year, a New Jersey dentist pleaded guilty to plundering bodies from funeral homes for parts, selling hundreds, and maybe even thousands, of bone fragments and bits of flesh to tissue processors around the country.

Israel had its own body-parts scandal in 2004, when pathologist Yehuda Hiss was removed from his post as head of the state-run L. Greenberg Institute of Forensic Medicine. There was a long history of allegations, substantiated by the Israeli government, of Hiss and his lab taking organs from dead bodies without permission and using them for research or selling them to medical schools. The allegations against Hiss first came to light in 1998, after a Scottish tourist suspected of drug dealing died in a holding cell at Ben Gurion International Airport. After an autopsy in Israel that was overseen by Hiss, the Scotsman’s body was returned to his family, who had a second autopsy performed, which discovered that the dead man was missing his heart and a small bone at the base of his tongue. The family sued, and the scandal was well publicized in Israel and Scotland. In 2001, an Israeli Health Ministry investigation found that Hiss had been involved for years in taking body parts, such as legs, ovaries and testicles, without family permission during autopsies, and selling them to medical schools for use in research and training. He was appointed chief pathologist in 1988. Hiss was never charged with any crime, but in 2004 he was forced to step down from running the state morgue, following years of complaints. The final straw, apparently, was when the body of a youth killed in a road accident was gnawed upon by a rat in Hiss’s lab. Scheper-Hughes said that when she interviewed Hiss in 2004, he admitted that he had done selective harvesting of organs from bodies that came to his lab. The state inquiry found no evidence that Hiss targeted Palestinians; rather, he seemed to view every body that ended up in his morgue, whether Israeli or Palestinian, as fair game for organ harvesting. The families of dead Israeli soldiers were among those who complained about Hiss’s conduct.

The July arrest of an alleged black-market kidney broker in New Jersey may have given Swedish journalist Donald Boström a news peg for his most recent story, but the connection doesn’t hold up under scrutiny. Boström claims to have learned of organ-harvesting in Israel in 1992, during the period in which Hiss served as chief pathologist. According to the criminal complaint against Rosenbaum, the accused organ broker told an undercover FBI agent that he’d been dealing in kidney transplants since about 1999. But timeline aside, the alleged link doesn’t make practical sense. First of all, by the time dead bodies get to the morgue, it’s much too late to transplant their organs into other people. Second, Rosenbaum is alleged to have arranged, for a fee, kidney transplants from live “donors” who traveled to the US from Israel for the operations; there’s no evidence that he ever dealt with postmortem organs. The real problem of organ trafficking, Scheper-Hughes said, is more widespread, and it often goes unpunished because few people pay close attention to what happens to dead bodies. “Because it is so secretive, because nobody likes death, nobody checks these places out and they make their own rules,” she said.

some of the forward points raised are reasonable.
    but:
The mother, Sadija, told Aftonbladetthat Israeli troopers could have arrested him but instead decided to kill him.

According to the family, the Israeli army demanded NIS 5,000 (about USD1,300) to return the body.

and let forward deal with this:
“It was the middle of the night. The soldiers caused an electrical power outage in the entire village. Bilal was returned in a black bag; he had no teeth. The body was stitched from the neck all the way down to the abdomen,” the Swedish newspaper quoted the mother as saying.

forward-backward-sideways, let jews do their vicim dance but there is no escaping that they
killed the kid instead of nursing him back to health (and all he was was a stone thrower, chrissakes,
ensured the burial was done under the cover of total darkness, women were not allowed because their shrieks could be heard some distance away,
the body was sewn up, filled with cotton, organs ripped out,
the kid’s teeth were missing, wtf fresh horror does this signify

and the only concern of forward is how to legally exonerate idf … would they care to apply the same principles of incontrovertible proof to holocaust?

what holocaust and corpse-snatching (and creating) have in common is that under no circumstances does the jew allow a forensic investigation into either claim.
    must be some reason …

Everything these completely unrepentant shameless liars try to sell through their teeth is preceded by Maxwell Smart asking, “Would you believe…?”
Those organs were not harvested. We were just holding on to those organs until the owner told us what to do with them. Had he contacted us by phone with written instructions in Estonian we would have obeyed his wishes to the letter.

Gideon Levy agrees, look at todays Ha’aretz , wherein he states that “There were cases in which the organs of Palestinians who had been killed were harvested without permission. . . for research purposes.”

So the moral Mr. Levy believes that it’s acceptable to steal Palestinian body parts for research, whatever that means, but not to sell?

The Levy article is in yesterday’s Haaretz, actually:
    http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1110401.html

Yehuda Hiss definitely did sell them to his various research and medical clients. That is a given in all the reports of the Israeli govt.’s own investigations. I don’t know whether he pocketed the money, though, or put it into Abu Kabir’s funds.

The thing is, the ‘autopsies’ serve no forensic purpose anyway. The cause of death is never in doubt in these cases. The ‘autopies’ are performed (a) to grab the organs, and (b) as a deliberate insult to the Palestinian families. Even the jewish soldier who was treated this way, having his organs stolen at Abu Kabir, turns out to have been a suspected suicide following trouble in the IDF, i.e., not a good zionist soldier but a suspected malcontent and nogoodnik.

There was also an occasion when jewish haredi families mobbed Abu Kabir and trashed his office, because he had ‘autopsied’ one or more of their dead persons. I haven’t even bothered to cover that.

Some people just like cutting other people up. I expect the psychiatrists would call it ‘Hannibal Lector Syndrome By Proxy,’ or something equally silly.

postmortems are rarely performed in canada, except in cases likely to involve legal action, when the cause of death is in reasonable doubt.
there simply aren’t enough staff and facilities to do it routinely, pathologists are better employed in other tasks.

the fact that there is such a huge autopsy establishment in israel is in itself suspicious, especially where the army itself keeps bringing in people they shot.
what’s the point (“we killed him, can you confirm?”), it seems insanely wasteful of medical skills and time.

except that it doesn’t seem to be wasteful if palestine is considered a giant and profitable organ farm.

and not the least, wtf does “research purposes” mean, those thousands of fresh organs over the years, can they show some therapeutical benefit derived or are they that incompetent – “we need another 6 million organs”.

if yehuda doesn’t win the nobel prize in medicine, it is pure anti-semitism.

Research, and also education. Medical schools need organs to show their students. They constitute a large demand for organs worldwide, but don’t pay as much as research establishments, I should think.

not my point rowan, in fact i am of the opinion that if meat can be usefully recycled, whether for medical or research purposes, that is better than to defile the ground with it.

the problem is the push-pull commercial angle, when soldiers get the idea that freshly created corpses are a lucrative supplement to their otherwise meagre pay, especially coupled with well known urging by rabbis for complete annihilation, remorselessness and lack of scruples.

and in fact, my interest goes beyond that as well, namely, why is it that all the bespittled defenders of journalistic freedom in denmark, netherlands and elsewhere, so quick to publish muhammad cartoons and salman rushdie are now decrying the swedish expose as ‘blood libel’.

have any of them even bothered to ask for an independent investigation into the truth of the matter (the truth of ANY matter).

and therein lies the problem, for all i know or care, yehuda hiss may be a paragon of hippocratic oath but let’s find out through an objective inquiry, shall we?
and let’s broaden the inquiry into some other fields where the reasonable doubt can be cast on the official claims.

what prompted jesus to call them hypocrites, i wonder.

I think its HILARIOUS that avigdor lieberman, who three years ago called for the genmocide of all arabs, wants sweden to CONDEMN the article and says it is completely FALSE.

COMPLETELY FALSE! let’s ignore the fact that 44 people in the US were arrested, some for links to organ harvesting.

Never mind the fact that Hiss, the zionist troll, admitted to organ harvesting.

It’s all A LIE. Hitler once said, or goebbles, THAT IF YOU TELL A LIE ENOUGH, PEOPLE WILL START TO BELIEVE IT.

WELL….lieberman learned well. I bet IDF soldiers could admit to war crimes, and israel would deny it.

OH WAIT, THAT ALREADY HAPPENS. LOL
