The Shooting in Canada and ‘the New Face of Terror’

The “new face of terror,” as identified by Fox contributor Charles Krauthammer, will be exploited by the state to make arguments in favor of NSA surveillance and military escalation in Syria and elsewhere in the Middle East. So far we have no confirmation of ISIS allegiance on the part of the Ottawa attacker. In the current political environment, however, no such evidence is required and little will be provided (as it wasn’t in the case of the alleged Boston bombers). Lurid propaganda, from the reported atrocities of ISIS to its alleged beheadings of Usaian journalists, conditions the public to give its consent for endless war abroad and to further establish an oppressive police state at home. Krauthammer’s warning is instructive. He claims orders from ISIS are not required to set domestic terrorists in motion. A new generation of terrorists, radicalized over the internet and emboldened by supposed ISIS victories on the battlefield, produce a specter of truly frightening dimension. It cannot be ameliorated without sacrifice. Fox News does not tell us how we will fight against such an enemy, but the solution is obvious. The West will fully embrace the neocon-engineered Clash of Civilizations and its requirement for interminable conflict with an attendant proviso: the destruction of liberty and a “muscular role for the state,” as defined by Ben Wattenberg.

The corporate media in Usaia is reporting there was “chatter” about an ISIS attack prior to today’s attack on the Canadian Parliament. From Fox News:
A counter-terrorism source tells Fox News that there was a spike in ISIS-related online chatter focusing on Canada in the days leading up to the shooting Wednesday in the capital of Ottawa.
The “chatter” is said to have started five days ago. The source said it was centered around Canada’s decision to join in the coalition conducting air strikes against ISIS in Syria. The Usaian State Dept said its embassy in Ottawa is on lockdown in response to the shooting that killed a member of the Canadian military standing guard at the National War Memorial. In addition, the FBI has raised its “alert posture” in response to the attack. Fox News appears to be running with the ISIS and AQ angle. A former CIA analyst told the network he believes one of the terror groups is responsible for the shooting. Fred Fleitz said:
The is the purpose of ISIS. To stage acts of terror outside of the Middle East to terrorize Western audiences.

Note that the terror “expert” in the above Fox segment hails from the Clarion Project, a neocon anti-Islam outfit that produced the short film Obsession: Radical Islam’s War against the West. An “end of innocence” means Canada can now build the sort of police state well underway in Ukia and Usaia:
For the Toronto Sun, it is case closed despite a paucity of evidence. The newspaper has concluded the shooting in Ottawa was the work of homegrown terrorists:

This shocking shooting comes on the heels of Monday’s car attack that killed one soldier and injured another in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu by extremist Martin Rouleau, who was under watch by the RCMP and had his passport seized when he tried to fly to Turkey to join ISIS. Just last month, Public Safety minister Steven Blaney tabled his report “2014 Public Report On The Terrorist Threat To Canada” and warned “terrorism remains the leading threat to Canada’s national security.” How prophetic those words now ring in Ottawa.

Wattenberg doesn’t actually claim the idea, he is quoting another (backsliding?) neo-conservative, Bill Kristol. From pg.10 of his 2008 book,
… Kristol says … neo-cons support a muscular role for the state, and for America in particular. …, then Wattenberg agrees, … Yes …
And I think you might agree that Kristol probably got the idea from Karl Schmidt. The actual originator of the notion may be twice removed from what is suggested…, and so it is often the case, even when there is no intention to mislead, that we can jump to the wrong conclusion about who said or did what, no? 🙂
