The failed coup was indeed supported by the CIA, but the failure was coordinated with President Erdogan. It was an intelligence op which was meant to fail and mislead public opinion.
I’ve just read the Chossudovsky & “New Atlas” articles, and I’m not convinced. There is no evidence whatever, it’s just mood music. By the way, Tony’s habitual “would” which Chossudovsky imitates, is called “past tense, stative mood, prospective aspect.” He should be told to desist from endless use of it, don’t you think…
BTW, I just read the Seth Franzman article, and it seems to me to be straight neoliberal polemic, with semantic switcheroos prominent throughout.
these “would”s here? Michel is quoting, what it’s not clear, looks like simple past tense indirect statement to me–
